(Atlantic) Young Professionals of Atlantic recently held a 2014 kick-off social with a goal to take the group to a new level in giving back to the community.
The Atlantic Area Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals have been around since 2008 hosting social events and workshops. Newly elected President of YP Kevin Weiser, Brown’s Shoe Fit Manager, said their mission is to connect, engage and attract young leaders into the community while promoting the greater Atlantic area. He said their goal is to be a positive influence in the community while having fun and making a difference.
“That’s 100 percent our goal, to create a positive atmosphere for younger people to be able to get involved, and not necessarily know how they can get involved, but give them an opportunity to be able to put their brains to work and make a positive influence in the community,” said Weiser.
The Young Professionals are working on a number of future projects.
“One of the big ones that we’re currently working on is getting together with the YMCA and some other people in the community to start a Big Brothers/Big Sisters program that will allow us to partner with underprivileged youth or people that maybe need a push in the right direction,” explained Weiser. “We really, being young people, would like to focus a little bit on the youth and things like that. So, we are working on getting that Big Brothers/Big Sisters program lined up and making a positive influence that way.”
The demographic of a young professional is between the ages of 21 to 40. Anyone interested in being a part of YP can contact the Atlantic Area Chamber of Commerce at 712-243-3017. The next YP event is a game night on March 11 at 6:30 p.m. at Weitzels Restaurant and Bar. Interested person can register at AtlanticIowa.com.
